Cutting-Edge Live Entertainment Company Leverages Epson Pro L-Series Laser Projectors
to Deliver State-of-the-Art Hologram Theatrical Experiences

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Jan. 11, 2018 – Epson today announced a new partnership with BASE Hologram to deliver a revolutionary new form of live entertainment that merges theatrical stagecraft with innovative digital and laser technology. BASE Hologram, a new cutting-edge live entertainment company recently launched from BASE Entertainment has chosen Epson Pro L-Series laser projectors to power two productions that showcase holographic image of rock legend Roy Orbison and internationally renowned opera sensation Maria Callas performing digitally remastered renditions of their biggest hits and interacting with both the on-stage musicians and the audience.

“With its roots in BASE Entertainment, the premier live entertainment company behind shows like Phantom - The Las Vegas Spectacular and Magic Mike Live, BASE Hologram formed on the aspiration to bring back the excitement and thrill of live theater for a new audience of all ages constantly immersed in our technologically-advanced world. With that precedent, it was critically important we chose top tier technology partners to create this revolutionary new form of live entertainment,” said Marty Tudor, Executive Producer and CEO, BASE Hologram Productions. “In taking on this feat of bringing legends like Roy Orbison and Marie Calla to life, we required visual display technology that would allow the audience to truly feel they were experiencing these electric and spellbinding performances live.”

Tudor went on to say, “Epson’s Pro L-Series laser projectors offer a combination of bright, vivid images, installation flexibility and long image life, making them ideal for our touring concerts as well as theatre/location-based productions.”

 Making the Magic Happen

“Creating the magical live experience the audience craves and the true-to-life interaction with performers that could not otherwise be seen live, visual display is key,” said Gavin Downey, senior product manager, large venue projectors, Epson America, Inc. “Upon hearing about BASE Hologram’s exciting new show, we knew Epson’s state-of-the-art laser technology would not only deliver brilliant color and exceptional image quality to the audience, but also the flexibility of installation and the ease-of-operation that production companies require to feel confident that the convergence of technology and live theatrical stagecraft will be seamless.”

BASE Hologram’s fully immersive production of live events is one of the most aggressive and unique approaches to the field of augmented reality and hyper-reality. As technology continues to become a crucial part of our day-to-day lives, including in the way we experience live entertainment, rental & staging companies need to consider the many factors behind a successful digital performance.

Visual Display Must-Haves for Rental and Staging

To ensure an entertainment production is visually engaging, pristine image quality is a must-have. Epson Pro L-Series projectors deliver native WUXGA (1920 x 1200). Epson’s 4K enhancement1 technology further enhances the image quality by shifting each pixel diagonally by 0.5 pixels to double the output that surpasses Full HD image quality. The technology also accepts a 4K signal, allowing viewers to experience the most intricate details.

When the curtain goes up, it is imperative that the show goes on and your talent performs – regardless of whether live or virtual. Leverage display technology with a solid-state laser light source and electrostatic air filter that also provides virtually maintenance-free operation up to 20,000 hours2.

To create groundbreaking shows like the In Dreams: Roy Orbison in Concert and Callas in Concert experience, flexibility in the hardware itself is essential. The Pro L-Series projectors support a full range of inputs, including HDBaseT, 3G-SDI, and is compatible with Crestron RoomView, AMX, Extron XTP, Control4, and Art-Net for easy integration.  In addition, they are compatible with nine different interchangeable lenses, including the ultra short-throw ELPLX02 for large image projection from just a few feet away.
