INFOCOMM13, ORLANDO, Fla. and SAN JOSE, Calif., – Jun. 10, 2013 – Polycom, Inc. (Nasdaq: PLCM), the global leader in open, standards-based unified communications and collaboration (UC&C), today announced Polycom® RealPresence® Mobile 3.0 and Polycom® RealPresence® Desktop 3.0, video collaboration software applications for mobile devices and personal computers. The new versions include enhanced content-sharing capabilities and support across more devices from companies including Apple, LG, Samsung and Sony. RealPresence Mobile 3.0 and RealPresence Desktop 3.0 video collaboration software are powered by the Polycom® RealPresence® Platform, the most interoperable, secure and comprehensive software infrastructure for universal video collaboration. These solutions, along with Polycom’s full portfolio of next-generation video collaboration solutions, are on display this week at InfoComm13 in Orlando, Fla.
“Organizations expect a great collaboration experience, whether they’re at headquarters, at home, with a customer or on the road – or for that matter in a school, a hospital, a court room, or a manufacturing plant,” said A.E. Natarajan, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Engineering, Polycom. “Polycom is focused on delivering solutions that make it incredibly easy for anyone to collaborate via video regardless of device or environment. Today’s enhancements to our mobile and desktop software solutions represent another step forward to drive our vision to make video collaboration ubiquitous, enabling more organizations and users to reap the benefits of face-to-face collaboration.”
For Polycom customer Lincoln Fire and Rescue in Lincoln, Neb., for example, video collaboration technology allows the organization to ensure a consistent knowledge-transfer training process for its workforce, which is completely independent of where they are physically located (see the related video and case study).
“Here at Lincoln Fire and Rescue, we were struggling to train our firefighters and emergency medical services personnel while still keeping them available to respond to emergencies in the community,” said Leo Benes, Battalion Chief with Lincoln Fire and Rescue. “With room, mobile and desktop video conferencing, we’re able to reach all 85 of our employees at one time while they’re still in their station houses. Whether on our daily morning call, in training sessions, or using real-time mobile video at the scene to respond to a large-scale disaster, we can show everyone what we’re talking about by pushing maps, photos, video – whatever they need – to understand the situation better. As a result, we respond to emergencies faster, and we’re better prepared when we do.”
Polycom also announced today that Polycom® RealPresence® CloudAXIS™ Suite – a software extension to the Polycom RealPresence Platform that delivers secure, enterprise-grade video collaboration to anyone with a web browser – has achieved VMware Ready™ status. By using Polycom RealPresence CloudAXIS Suite with VMware vSphere® 5, enterprises can now deploy video collaboration in a virtualized VMware environment (see the related press release). The VMware certification will help customers further scale their video collaboration infrastructure, reduce TCO, and optimize performance.
Extending HD Video and Content Collaboration to More Smartphones and Tablets
Polycom RealPresence Mobile 3.0 software is Polycom’s award-winning application that lets customers securely extend the use of video collaboration beyond the conference room to easily connect tablets and smartphones (iOS and Android devices) with other standards-based video systems, providing a simple and intuitive video collaboration experience when users are on-the-go, traveling or working remotely. Enhancements include:
- Ability to share various file formats – for a more engaging video collaboration experience, iPad users can now capture and share images, live web content and content files - including .jpg, .png, html pages, PDF, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word documents - that are stored on the device or in a popular cloud storage service
- Support on more mobile devices –The latest upgrade includes support for the newest devices from Apple, LG (Optimus G Pro), Samsung (GALAXY® S4), and Sony (Xperia ZLand Xperia Z)
Available for more than a dozen devices, the app also includes far-end camera control (ability to control cameras remotely; see video, related case study) and Polycom SmartPairing™ technology, a unique innovation from Polycom that wirelessly pairs tablets to Polycom’s video conferencing room systems. Users can control video meeting functions such as volume, mute and start/stop with their tablets, and they can walk into a conference room while on a live mobile video call and transfer that call from tablet to big screen with the swipe of a finger.
