LONDON - Mar 21, 2012 : Andy Miller, CEO of Polycom, Inc. (Nasdaq: PLCM), the global leader in open standards-based unified communications (UC), has been named Industry Leader of the Year by Telepresence and Videoconferencing Insight (TP & VC Insight) in its Editor's Choice Awards 2011. TP&VC Insight also recognized Polycom customer International Virtual e-Hospital (IVeH), based in Kosovo, as the top Visual Communications User Application in Healthcare for 2011.

"In his leadership of Polycom, Andrew Miller has demonstrated his commitment to ensuring the company retains its enviable position in the field of Unified Communications, generally, and in visual collaboration, in particular," said Keith Warbuton, Editor, Telepresence and Videoconferencing Insight. "Polycom won the award for Visual Communications User Application in Healthcare for the International Virtual e-Hospital, as it exemplifies the benefits to be gained by the effective application of visual communications in such a worthwhile project."

"It's great to win these two awards and I accept them on behalf of our customers such as the International Virtual e-Hospital and Telemedicine Center in Kosovo, who are doing such amazing things with Polycom video collaboration solutions," said Miller. "At Polycom, our vision is to make video collaboration ubiquitous by delivering easy-to-use, standards-based video collaboration software to anyone on any device. It's truly humbling and inspiring to see the difference Polycom technology is making for people around the world – in this case, using video in a war-torn region to help treat and prevent diseases, connect to experts and specialists, and continue the education of healthcare providers with access to institutions around the world."

Polycom and the IVeH partnered on a model that lets medical professionals collaborate via video and share their expertise across 35 healthcare and academic institutions, globally. Launched in 2001, the Telemedicine Program of Kosovo has since connected seven hospitals in the country via telemedicine. It has also provided access to an electronic medical library for distance learning with video facilities in Albania, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Finland, Germany, Italy, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, UK, and the U.S. Each telemedicine center in Kosovo contains Polycom® RealPresence® video collaboration rooms, tele-consultation rooms, telemedicine training rooms, and mobile telepresence units in patient rooms.

"The Polycom videoconferencing solution helps us share knowledge, train the next generation of medical providers, and conduct consultations with worldwide experts to ultimately improve patient care," said Dr. Rifat Latifi, International Virtual e-Hospital Founder.
