Polycom mobile software drives enterprise-grade video beyond the conference room and extends the benefits of video collaboration
PLEASANTON, Calif. - Jan 09, 2012 : Polycom, Inc. (Nasdaq: PLCM), the global leader in standards-based unified communications (UC), today announced Polycom® RealPresence™ Mobile software is now available for the DROID XYBOARD by Motorola. RealPresence Mobile software lets Polycom customers easily connect with other standards-based video systems virtually anywhere in the world, including immersive video rooms, group/desktop systems, laptops, and other mobile devices.
"We are clearly seeing the consumerization of IT and the desire for workers to video-enable their own mobile devices and familiar social applications in the workplace to be more productive. By offering Polycom software for mobile tablets like the DROID XYBOARD, millions of people can use video collaboration as their preferred method of communicating – easily, reliably, and securely," said Sue Hayden, executive vice president, Strategic Alliances, Polycom. "Polycom RealPresence Mobile software takes the same high-quality, enterprise-grade video collaboration experience Polycom users expect inside a conference room and extends it beyond the traditional boundaries of the office. Polycom's software-based approach to delivering universal video collaboration is helping more people connect over video – no matter what network, carrier, protocol, application, or device they use – to experience the face-to-face difference."
Today's news builds on the RealPresence Mobile software application launched in October 2011 and the announcement of its availability as a free download on a number of devices, including the Motorola XOOM tablet. In just over two months, the application has already been downloaded more than 25,000 times. RealPresence Mobile, powered by the Polycom® RealPresence™ Platform, was developed with Polycom's open standards-based approach to ensure it can seamlessly interoperate with the broadest range of related applications, protocols, call control systems, and end points. Enterprise customers can easily connect with RealPresence Mobile by simply entering their corporate configuration settings, available from their IT department.
Featuring an intuitive user interface, RealPresence Mobile allows users to simultaneously view content, such as presentations, in high-quality during video sessions. The solution delivers the industry's best video and audio for a higher-quality, enterprise-grade experience, and supports firewall traversal and VPN (virtual private network) clients so users can easily join a conference from a WiFi, 3G, or 4G network.
Video collaboration is going mainstream in enterprises as well as vertical industries such as healthcare, education, government, manufacturing and entertainment. Polycom RealPresence Mobile enables users across industries to further mobilize the workforce, with a variety of compelling use cases and benefits made possible by the combination of video collaboration and mobilty. For example:
  • Healthcare – A physician can use a tablet device to collaborate via video with medical experts to streamline telemedicine evaluations, speed diagnosis, and help save lives.
  • Education – Students can stay connected virtually to professors, lectures, and course content whether in a classroom, a remote campus, or even at home.
  • Government – Mobile response units can now share and analyze live onsite information in real-time with crisis centers and emergency teams to analyze the situation, deploy needed resources, and enhance decision making.
  • Manufacturing – Manufacturers now have eyes and ears on the factory floor to remotely facilitate inspection, expedite diagnosis, and reduce time-to-market.
