Posted on Wednesday, November 16, 2011
PLEASANTON, Calif. - Nov 16, 2011 : Polycom, Inc. (Nasdaq: PLCM), the global leader in standards-based unified communications (UC), congratulates Polycom board member William A. Owens on being named to the National Association of Corporate Directors' (NACD) 2011 Directorship 100.

Each year, NACD Directorship identifies the most influential people in the boardroom community, including directors and officers, as well as corporate governance experts, journalists, regulators, academics and counselors. Owens joins a distinguished list of directors and officers in the "class of 2011," representing many of the world's largest and most successful companies such as Apple, AT&T, GE, IBM, and MasterCard.

"Bill is an exceptional leader, and he brings world-class integrity and incredible insight – including in cloud and growth markets – to Polycom's Board of Directors," said Andy Miller, Polycom CEO and board member. "Polycom has always operated under the principle that strong corporate governance practices are the foundation of a successful, well-run company, and Bill is the embodiment of this principle."

"I'm thrilled to see Bill recognized as one of the very best in corporate governance," said Polycom chairman of the Board David G. DeWalt. "Bill plays a critical role on the Polycom board, and brings a level of trust and business acumen that has a positive impact on the direction of the company. We congratulate Bill for this well-deserved honor from the National Association of Corporate Directors, and thank him for his work and leadership on the Polycom board."

Owens joined the Polycom board of directors in December 2005 and was previously a director of Polycom from August 1999 to May 2004. Owens joined AEA Investors, a New York private equity company, in April 2004. He is also the former CEO of Nortel and vice chairman to the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Owens was a career officer in the U.S. Navy where he served as commander of the U.S. Sixth Fleet in 1990 and 1991, and as senior military assistant to Secretaries of Defense Frank Carlucci and Dick Cheney. Owens holds a B.A. in Mathematics from the U.S. Naval Academy, Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics from Oxford University and a Master's in Management from George Washington University.
